    Mac OS has always had a "Location manager" where you can set up TCP/IP and network settings for different locations you take your laptop. One for the office, one for the house, etc.
    I don't see this option in XP.

    The main issue is my apartment has a static IP address so I have to change the wireless setup TCP/IP settings to manual and re-enter the IP address and other annoying info when I switch. The rest of my locations (work, school) use either ethernet or wireless DHCP settings.

    Any suggestions? Freeware programs. I don't want to have to pay for a solution.

    All I can say is that I share your pain. I am currently working at a site in Korea. I have to set the IP address for my wired connection to their IP address settings, when I get back to the hotel, I have to reset.

    That being said, I am fairly certain I have seen the option in XP to do what you want. Are you using Professional or Home? Currently I am on Home, but I will check a Professional installation when I get the chance.

    I just logged into my work computer which runs Windows XP Professional. When you click on your network connection, highlight TCP/IP and click on properties, there is the ability to enter an "Alternate Configuration" if the computer is used on a second network.

    I don't see that...
    Can you be more specific?

    Start->Settings->Network Connections
    Right click on the connection you are using and select properties
    Click on TCP/IP and select properties

    I have two tabs that come up. The first is "General" where you can enter your IP information and the other is "Alternate Configuration" where you can enter an additional connection.
