Les Alexander comments on the state of the Rockets

This is so true.
Another thing that is important from the financial standpoint is whether Yao gets the ROY or not.
His position looked pretty good 2 weeks ago but with the lack of playing time recently, there is a little shift toward Stoudamire again. I'd bet the boss is not so happy with Larry for sitting Yao.

It seemed ok to sit Yao based on game situation, either because the Rox was up or down by a lot of points, or because Cato played great ...
But that does not help Yao to pad the stats and get the ROY. ... Don't tell me Larry is not responsible for that. Of course the coach is, look at all the campaigns from various teams trying to push their own players for MVP, ROY and all other awards ...

 

I really feel bad for Rudy, having cancer and going through all this.

 

Lesson hopefully learnt: You never pay huge long-term money for role players. Ultimately you would definitely suffer or at least limit your long-term future for that.

 

when I hear CD and Larry speak, it sounds like guys saying the
things one needs to say in order to secure their jobs. The same goes for Mobley, Rice, and Cato. All these guys cant truly believe all that "we need time to grow" stuff anymore.

 

Am I stupid or wasn't that an endorsement. He gets asked about the coaching staff and responds that he wants stability and to have people working with him awhile. It seems to me that change is the opposite of stability, and he's already been working with the current staff awhile. If he didn't want to give an 'endorsement', he could've said 'everyone will be evaluated', or something like that. Instead he says he wants stability. I don't know.

 

For me that means one thing(and that is bad!):no changes next year!
Preference to stability means same coach,same players and hope they get better together.
I(like many others here) don't think that the solution.
with all due respect to Rudy,Change coach and system!And while ur at it change the players that don't fit in!

Freak, I think the last comment says everything. When somebody mentioned that he did not endorse Rudy, he said he would leave it at that (again).

That is definately not a good thing for Rudy. After every other poor season, he always praises Rudy. This time he did not.

 

Ain't nothin' more stable than missin' the playoffs again next year.

 

Role players? Three were supposed to be stud starters, the fourth a valuable 'piece'.

 

I agree completely. The thing is Les made the bold and rather foolish statement of "I think this is one of the greatest teams assembled." Obviously, Les was thinking playoffs for this season and anything less would be a disappointment. And invariably, in sports, when an owner is disappointed, the coach is usually axed.

Now, don't get me wrong. I don't think that Les would cold-heartedly fire Rudy especially now. If he does, then I would be very disappointed because I always thought he was a classy owner.

However, I would not be surprised to see Rudy "urged" to move upstairs within the organization. Some teams call it "reassignment"; however, most of the time that means going to a lower job on the totem pole but that will probably not happen with Rudy.

 

I think he will sit down with Rudy and evaluate his performance.

Truthfully, ever since Rudy stopped drinking and putting in the massive hours, his teams have gone down hill.

I just think Rudy has lost some of the passion he had, and it is reflected in his teams lackadasical play.

It is time for Rudy to move up into the front office, and for the Rockets to get a new coach that will motivate the players to play hard each and every night.


Imagine if we had Musselman here?

Also, Rudy and CD have made some TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE personel decisions. EG, Drew, Collier, Turcsan.....

Turning down Lewis for EG last summer, trading KT......

To me it reads that Les isn't happy with the job Rudy did this year, but that Rudy's job isn't in jeopardy yet because he's worked with Rudy for so long and trusts him. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. But it's just lip service. As far as we know, Les has already decided to try to look into getting a new coach and doesn't want to ruffle any feathers. Or he has decided to keep Rudy and doesn't want to say anything stupid in his current frustrated state.

imo, unless something weird happens(rudy's health forces him out, the perfect coaching candidate becomes available???) rudy doesn't have to worry about his job security until next year. But I think he'll be on the hotseat next season if the team continues to struggle and play bad basketball.

I'm very interested in Clutch's take yesterday that someone named Larry, he didn't say Smith, would be coaching the team next year. As weird as it'd be seeing anyone other than Rudy T on the sidelines, I could handle Larry Brown.

 

I just hope that Les isnt saying anything and that any changes that he has in mind will be revealed later!
If his statement is the true and final thaughts of Les, then the Owner must have been asleep for the whole season. He isnt aware of why the Rockets with all the talent havent produced! If he thinks that maturity , direction and team work will just magicaly come to fruition, then he is delusional and I will loose respect for his opinion. Fans should not sit quietly if Les fails to help the chemistry of the team.

 

Cato, Moochie, Taylor have never consistently shown that they were studs before we signed them to those huge contracts. They were only role players back then. And they are only role players now. If Rockets ever thought that they would become stars of the team, they clearly overrated their potential and room for improvement. Terrible decisions. Plain and simple.

 

With out a doubt, this team will go to the playoff next year with a few adjustments this summer.Like , cut down the ball hogging, and consistancy on passing to the open man on the floor, things like that!

One year? No. If the team continues the same brand of ugly stupid ball I'd give Rudy a couple of months. That is, if you blame the coaching rather than the players, which is what Les seems to be hinting at.
