'Mooning' legal, judge declares January 5, 2006 - 6:45AM In a ruling that could elate local teens, a judge declared this week that "mooning", the practice of baring one's backside, is legal in the US state of Maryland, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday. Mooning is popular among teenagers travelling in cars, but the case in question involved a 44-year-old man who "mooned" his neighbour and her eight-year old daughter. The neighbour brought the complaint. "If exposure of half of the buttock constituted indecent exposure, any woman wearing a thong at the beach at Ocean City would be guilty," said Judge John W Debelius III, according to the paper. Though calling the practise "disgusting," mooning does not constitute indecent exposure, the judge ruled.
