Outlier's post about old movies reminded me of this. Why has the hangout never once mentioned this movie...as far as I can tell.

Poll is: have you seen this movie or not?

for me...the soundtrack was awesome. It's actually a musical.

this video explains why the word "jaded" came from Judas.

It was a Broadway Musical first, right.

So what Broadway "MUSICAL" capitalized so you know...was best at transitioning the a great movie...West Side Story?

Not only did I vote "yes" but I have seen two different movie versions of JCSS and I own two different cast recordings.

Judas is always the meat performer but the one from the original movie you cited has been my favorite by far.

Second question - yes gotta be WSS. Right now I can't think of anything that comes close to scale, choreography, cinematography, and main stream importance.

I think I was made to watch it at a church function as a kid.

Later I had the soundtrack record I got at a thrift store or something. I would listen to it occasionally - not sure why.

I've never seen the movie, but I have seen the musical three times. The third time, it was really bad. They cast Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) as Jesus and he and the revamped production was awful. They turned Jesus into a heavy metal head banger.

The original musical came out in the early 70s.

never seen the movie but the Broadway cast recording (with Ben Vereen as Judas) by Andrew Lloyd Webber is amazing.

between Godspell, JCSS, and Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,
Superstar is my favorite hands down. the other two are bubble gum in comparison.

JCSS is raw, focusing on (Jesus') relationships with Judas and Mary Magdalene. the music is intense, and the performers are awesome.

    Favorite stanza:

"Listen Jesus don't you care for your race [which is Jews, ironically]
Don't you see we must keep in our place
    We are occupied [favorite line]
Have you forgotten how put down we are."

I had a step father who would wake up on Sunday morning and walk out to the living room in his underwear and yell..."Christ was a Jew" and then go back to bed.

yes, weird family...but that was funny.

I saw it at a Jr. EYC lock-in when I was 10. We had watched Nightmare on Elm Street Part 4 earlier, so I think they threw this in just to balance it out.

Yes it was a musical first.

Personally I liked the Phantom of the opera (2004).

Saw the play only at Lamar High School one time. I think the kids did a good job (this was back in the 90's).

EDIT: Have NOT seen the movie.
