Keep Michael Redd or trade him by Thursday? -->Redd has done nothing to quiet the heavy speculation that he plans to be a Cav next year, and the team does not have matching rights when he opts out of his contract this summer. If he walks, they'll get nothing in return, and the franchise will be devastated. -->The Bucks are, due to their small market, a franchise that really has to watch their cost/revenue numbers. This isn't a team that can overspend and stay afloat, so moving Van Horn is key to the team simply being able to offer Redd a near-max deal. The team has been unsuccessful so far in trying to move KVH, mostly because he won't give up his option for $15.6 million next year. -->Trading Redd is difficult for the opposite reason: he makes a paltry $3 million this year. That limits the team to rookie-wage or role player contracts. Fair value? -->One possible solution, if the team thinks he's made up his mind to walk: package him with KVH and make a run at an established guy that will keep the team competitive. Redd, while worth more than his contract, isn't as good as people make him out to be, imo; certainly not the guy to be the cornerstone of your team. So, they'll be in doomed to mediocrity if they sign him to a big deal. They are best off cashing him in for what talent teams are willing to give up for him, whether it's picks/rookies or packed with KVH for a vet.
I'm pretty much in the same boat as Juan. Redd is good, but not great. The Bucks are a mediocre team in the east which makes them downright awful. Trade Redd and get rid of Van whiteboy's contract and put yourself in a better position for the future.
They cant try to move Redd by himself they wont get back equal value and instead of overpaying for him at the end of the summer package him with players you want to move (example- KVH) and get a max player back. (salaries should matchup as KVH is getting max dollars. willing teams - Nuggets could probably put the best deal together, they are deperate for an outside shooter and since Lenard is out for the season. I see Minnesota entering the fray with Sam & Spree in the mix. (bad deal for the Bucks) The Bucks want to get some young players to build around I wouldn't want draft picks unless they were unprotected and for future rounds (coming draft is deep but no one stands out as great) J
If I were the Bucks GM, I would trade all my good players, and my 1st round draft choice to the Rockets for Mo, Spoon, and the trade exception. Then I would go out and spend some of my salary on a good steak dinner. Real GM is your friend
I don't think either of those guys is a cornerstone. I would trade anyone and everyone for expiring contracts and try to build through the draft and free agency.
Milwaukee is going to need 2 lotto picks to build around, but no lotto team is going to want that package.... In fact, because Redd's contract is so tilted against the team that gets him, his trade value is nil to none. Let's say Redd and KVH gets traded, but Redd hates the city and bolts to Cleaveland next season. The team would be saddled with KVH's contract, different CBA rules and no lotto picks. Pretty nice deal for the Bucks.
