I need to get the side of my house setup with a new wood fence. I really don't think I can afford to have my whole yard done right now, but I the side is really bad. I came home a few days ago and found out my dogs had been out for hours because of this. I'm not a handy man at all and would probably just screw things up if I tried to fix it myself. Does anyone know of a good company to call that would do a small job like this? I live in the southeast part of town (Deer Park)
I just did a wooden fence myself. This was a huge backyard. I'm talking about nearly 800 boards. I'm not a handyman either. It's very easy, trust me I did all the work with 1 other person. It is actually quite easy. Home Depot sells 2 different sizes of boards. I chose the biggest one which was 85 cents a board. On top of that i need some 8 ft 2X4's. You can really do it quite cheap if you do the labor yourself. How much material would you need approx? my yard would have cost about 3,000 to 4,000 dollars to do but we were able to do it for under 1,000 bucks All you have to do is measure and cut your 2x4's and nail them up on the top and bottom portions of the fence. Then just nail up boards
I've lived in apartments all my life. When we had our house built, I decided instead of paying 1700-1800 dollars I would do it myself for 750. Its actually not that hard with a few tips I got from a fence builder I know. I hated every minute of it, but I got it done and its better than the 1600.00 fence my neighbor bought.
Wow, I had no idea it cost that much to get a fence put in! Well like I said, I'm just wanting to do the side of my house. I counted the other day and there are 32 boards there I think (the larger size). The previous owner had put a gate there, and now it's all sagging. I think all I will need to do is have one post in the middle for support. Will I need to get a post hole digger or something like that just for one hole? Also I dont know how deep to put it or anything like that.
And just ask Lowes or Home Depot what you need. They'll tell you how deep to make the hole and hook you up with some easy mix concrete. Just be sure it's straight.
32 boards, that'll take about an hour to do once you get the post in and are ready to begin I'd say no more than 50 bucks for the 32 boards and 2 2x4's just an estimate also, if your post is still in good shape i would recommend keeping it. I had god knows how many posts but i kept every single one of them.
I just did some repair/ replacement of wooden fence in my yard. The existing posts were wood. The posts had rotted at the base near the ground surface. I hand dug new fence post holes about 30" depth x 12" diameter. If the diggingis tough clay -gumbo - like in Houston, use a narrow shovel to increase your leverage. I installed 8' /or 96" pipe posts, purchased the pre mixed sack concrete, mixed the material in a wheelbarrow with water and filled the hole. To set the post plumb, I used a hand level, and a string tied to the other existing posts. Lowe's had hardware - like "U"clamps to secure the new pipe post to the 2' x 4' "runner board". If you need to replace fence boards these are available at Home depot or Lowe's. They also have pre built fence panels available. You will need a pickup to carry the fence panels. Check at the store you go to- if you give measurements they will likely help you figure how much material you need and the cost. We have dogs and they cannot get out........
