He's probably not going to pick Barry Zito (10-3, 3.58 ERA) to the all-star team because he pitches on the Sunday before the game. He only wants to pick guys that can help him win the game.

Um, excuse me Mr. I've Been Handed All My Championships on a Silver Platter, but isn't the All-Star game about recognizing the best players in the league? If you want to make the argument that Zito doesn't deserve to be there based on his performance thus far, that's fine...you'd be wrong, IMO, but that's fine. However, don't deny this honor because he may not be able to pitch in the game.

I don't know if I hate him, but I sure dislike him a lot. (I am an Orioles fan)

The All-Star game hasn't been any good in a long time. Last year was ok with Ripken and Gwynn but besides that it has gotten boring. I still like the home run derby though.

The real question is at AL shortstop. If Jeter gets in and Garciaparra doesn't... hopefully there will be some physical backlash directed at Mr. Torre.

How does Bartolo Colon fit into the mix? Is he an AL All-Star, NL All-Star, or does he get shafted due to the trade?

i heard he's defintely not AL... he would have to go in as an NL all-star... but i don't know how that works... do you compare his AL stats with NL pitchers in deciding? or do you compare his hence forward NL only work up until the voting deadline?

i don't think you can use his AL stats and that he basically got screwed.

It's up to the NL manager, but in all likelihood he won't be an All-Star.

Torre seems like a classy manager and a great ballplayer to me. If Jeter goes and Nomar doesn't, I would not be att all surprised, Jeter is a winner who plays for Joe Torre, Nomah is a loser that plays for Torres rivals. When the Red Sux make it to the World Series (like that will happen) then their manager, whoever that might be at the time, can chose the backups.

Thats the ****ing worst post I've ever seen. The All-Star game is supposed to showcase the best players from that season. Its not like "Hmm, who has won the most rings, step right up."

Nomar is leading Jeter in the following: BA, OPS, and SLG, and in RBIs. Having played 7 less games than Jeter, it can be assumed that his HR, runs, and hits would be higher than Jeters as well.

Its pretty obvious that the two time batting champion has more skills than Jeter.

    A) Not surprisingly, my Red Sux bashing post was not liked by a guy called Nomar.

    B) The All-Star game is a game where the players the fans want to see are showcased (hence the starters being voted in), and the managers are given the backup choices so they can try to win the game. 4 rings means Jeter knows how to win. BTW, SS have to play defense too. Not that any of this matters as they will likely both go to the AS game at the expense of Tejada an Visquel.

Tejada should get in over BOTH Jeter and Garciaparra.
