How is Shelden Williams still in the NBA?

I think it's probably safe to say that tonight's game cost him a shot at being on a NBA roster next season.

Simmons said something along the lines of "at least shelden has attained his dream of knowing what it's like for a person to play an NBA game without having any hands

 

Atlanta is so dumb drafting him #5 overall in the first place. They should've traded down to us so we could get Roy, and they could still have Williams! Oh well....

 

From what I understand, the guy had a good college career, and that can get you years in the NBA even if you absolutely suck. See Cook, Brian.
Though seriously, I think he's worse than Cook.

 

iirc, they needed a big man / defense? They didn't draft Horford until the year after, I think.

It was the best move at the time, IMO. Williams just busted.

 

He's such a frustrating player because he is always SO close to making a play, but never actually does anything positive.

Can't be worse than Yi Jianlian.

 

Yi has played quite respectably on offense this year at times,although his defense remains very poor. Sheldon hasn't been able to do anything.

 

Serious Question, who would you rather have a PF, Candice or Shelden? :grin:

I disagree. Arguably their 2 best players were Harrington and Smith and they're both PF's (Smith SF then). Williams doesn't have the size to play center. So why not draft the BPA? Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay even then would have been no brainers.

Actually the stats shows his offense is worse than what you praised him for. On the scale of overall suckiness, Williams may be at 8 but Yi is at solid 9.
