I'm guessing it's to talk more about the Toyota Center. Got questions? Email 610 at: morningcrew@sportsradio610.com
Some highlights: * Toyota will validate us as an international city. * Visited every building in the league over last couple of years. Got the idea for suites under the service level from Atlanta's Philips Arena. * Quality of seats are very good. Thinks they may be the best in league. Seats are wider with more leg room. More room between rows. More cushioning. * Food service. A wider variety than people are used to seeing. * Hank's Icecream is the best, according to Granato and will be offered. * Best fit for naming rights was a global brand. Didn't have to be based in Asia but a company trying to sell its products worldwide. * Toyota has a huge, locally owned distrubution center here and they played a big part. * Yao has lived up to everything they expected, on and off the court. He's only scratched the surface. * Toyota, like every other car manufacturer, is trying to get into the China market. --- someone else take over...I'm bored.
* Would not deny that Fleetwood Mac would be the opening concert act as reported by Chron's Ken Hoffman. My 2 cents: It should have been Houston's own Destiny's Child.
Fleetwood Mac? I guess thats ok..it goes with what Tim said about the average age of fans that attend the games. Hank's Ice Cream? never heard of it.. BlueBell is the best...and it's made just down the road in Brenham..better choice imo.. Thanks for the rundown Faos.
Someone has to keep everyone informed, even about the meaningless stuff...it's the off season you know.
Hope the building is fully compliant with the Citizens with Disabilities Act. With all the geezers showing up to that one, they'll need full access to the wheelchair ramps. just kidding Fleetwood Mac is still a huge draw and is a good choice, though I do like the idea of a Houston-connected artist like Destiny's Child (as long as it isn't ZZ Top!).
This is probably the wrong forum, but what's wrong with ZZ Top? I promise you that people will still be listening to their music long after a kiddie pop group like Destiny's Child has dropped off the radar.
I have probably missed something here - are you the poster formerly known as Free Agent? If yes, why the name change?
Nothing is wrong with them. I like them too. It's just that when you have the opening of a new building, you don't want a band that hasn't released an album in almost 10 years (although a new one is supposedly in the works). Fleetwood Mac is still one of the biggest selling artists in pop music history and Destiny's Child, while they haven't cemented themselves in history, is one of the biggest selling artists on the planet currently AND they happen to be from Houston.
Hey! Fleetwood Mac was great with Peter Green. Who is Destiny's Child... the thing gazing at the Earth at the end of "2001: A Space Odyssey"? What relevance is THAT!?!
It's all moot anyway. I don't think that Destiny's Child is even together anymore. To be honest, I'm not sure they were ever a real group in the first place. Isn't it just Beyonce and whoever who father hires to be her friends? Also, if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that Les doesn't care about Houston as a city beyond whatever his ticket sales and TV ratings are. He sees the Rockets as a global brand, including the arena - the fact that Houstonians paid for the new place means nothing to him. He's just a carpetbagger and the last thing he cares about is finding a Houston act to open the arena.
Damnit can you guys stop derailing the thread and get back on topic by telling me if Faos is Free Agent?
