WOW! I don't think there is any better exchange than these two. They both are apparently very intelligent, steadfast in belief and are coming from near opposite directions at times, but the strength of each poster's rebuttal is amazing. I think this exchange is a definite tribute to the quality that can occur when you have all kinds of different people with different backgrounds in this Rocket fan bbs.... I know it isn't always cool to name names, but I know there are those who appreciate high quality discourse such as this...there even seems to be common ground at times and I thought I would point out there can be negative stuff with a poster being a broken record and positive stuff with respectful exchange of ideas and methodology while maintaining tact, and proper composure. Just a thought. as a side note, what other memorable exchanges can you think of?
Well, thanks, I guess. BTW, I'll try to keep haven from taking all of your guns away, but if you start asking for the .50cal sniper rifle, you're on your own...
The 50BMG cartridge was developed for and against aircraft and light armor tanks at great distances. Also used in 1000 to 3000 yrd. sniping applications.....hmmm, you said you knew a military guy, huh?
Wonderful weapon, but as a civilian you have no real need for it... Interesting story from a couple years back on that gun: The ATF wanted to see how easy it would be to get one without a Class 3 license, so it started calling up dealers and asking them if they could purchase one without the license. They asked two very alarming questions: 1) will it penetrate bulletproof glass, like on an armored limosine? (answer of course "yes"), and 2) could you ship it to Washington DC for me? (answer of course "yes"). Almost all of the dealers they asked offered to ship without checking for a license... But it's a beautiful weapon. In 1991 it was used to great effect against Iraqi BMPs (armored fighting vehicles), and when it's used against people it disintegrates body parts, cuts them in half at the torso, etc... No reason at all for a civilian to use it. Well, maybe a professional marksman, but it's not going to be very useful in the home defense role.
Never thought of a gun as beautiful but then again I doubt most would think of a my personal "weapon" as beautiful as I do. But, on treeman and haven, no question. I have to admit that they have some pretty good discussions and, as much as I hate to admit it, I find myself agreeing with both of them at varying times and not always when I expect. Don't let it go to your head tree.
