He's arguing that two men who may receive minimum 19 month sentences for burning a man's genitalia is too light.

This man was sexually abusing his 7 and 10 year old nephews.

It's not like they got off scot-free.

"Doesn't this show that anyone can go out and do something like this?" Yeah, dumbass, and they can expect to lose a year and a half of their lives to prison.

And I missed the start of a Seinfeld rerun for that.

You mean to tell me that I can set someone's balls on fire and only get a year and a half for it?

Damnit! If 'd have only known that in high school! Ah well, I don't have a year and a half to waste anymore...

;)

The penalty for that ought to be death... er, uuhh, ten years maybe.

Sometimes I agree with O'Reilly and sometimes I don't. This time I don't. If the guy was molesting his nephews, he deserves to have his balls lit up. May the punishment fit the crime.

Uh... If we're arguing vigilanteism here, then can I go beat up this guy I used to know who used to jump bums in Tranquility just for fun? I mean, can I go kick his ass for justice, because he used to beat people up for fun? Not that I'd ever do that for fun...

Why didn't these buttheads just call the cops?

Leave the coppering to the cops. Cause that's what they do well - coppering. And stuff. They do it good. Like... Good. Well.

(OK, I actually like the "Set 'is nutz on fire!" idea - but who am I to pass judgment?)

I don't narmally advocate vigilanteism...but in this case if you play with fire you will get burned.

And since when have the cops been good about protecting anybody?

well Treeman actually got to it before I did but IMO you cannot take the law into your own hands. If people just said "Well you know that guy is not doing right I am just gonna go roast his chestnuts" we would not need cops or any other part of the judicial branch. It can be equated to me like this: I don't particularly care for people who drive at excessive speeds through my neighborhood, especially when my son is playing in the front yard. SO now when I see someone speeding in my area I am just going to find out where they live and go slash their tires so they can't speed down my street for a while. As the old cliche' goes "2 wrongs dont make a right" in this case both parties should be punished according to the crimes. 19 months is not adequate for either crime.

For molestation...no. For roasting the guy's chestnuts as you so eloquently put it...yeah it is. It is likely felony assault. That usually carries a short sentence.

Hey, I am not trying to argue here that someone's balls shouldn't have been flamed - just let the state do it. It is not up to us.

I am all for state-sponsored genital-incineration. Don't get me wrong here... I just want it to all be legal, moral, and any other -al you can throw at it. I want to make sure that it is done by the right people, and that those people have the public-granted authority to do it. Otherwise we'll just become another anarchistic genital-burning society that flouts rule of law and the judiciary process - like Syria or Iran...

The cops do their best, BTW. They are ineffective because we won't let them be effective.

How's that for a Catch 22?

Has O'Reilly completely lost it?

He never completely had it.

I'm sure if it was his nuts on fire, O'Reilly would be in favor of death by firing squad. But's that's just the kind of assclown O'Reilly is.

Anyone has a link to the story?

1. Was the burnee convicted of the crime? or are we going on the word of the burner?

The point of is about being a Vigelante [sp?]
It is a crime to take the law into your own hands

I would really like to hear the whole story
I'm going on too many assumptions here.

The burnee, according to O'Reilly and one of the burners' attorneys, was convicted of molestation. Of course, O'Reilly didn't believe the attorney when she said her client hadn't been sentenced yet, just pleaded guilty.

What some of you are missing is that the men who did this are being punished. You're acting like they took justice into their own hands, and are now paying the price for that decision-rightfully so. However, it's ridiculous, IMO, to believe that 19 months is too light for what they did.

OK
Here is my issue now that I have seen the link
1. They attacked the man in Nov 2000 and he was not convicted until June of 2001. SO beyond the comments of the weeping mother THESE GUYS HAD NO REAL EVIDENCE.

The issue of Punishment is to discourage others from the same
issue. 19 months to get to that b*stard that molested your
kid BEFORE he goes to trial may not be a bad trade off for some.

The question for you who say it was not light is this:
WHAT IF THE GUY DID NOT DO THE CRIME? Then this simply Assualt. Is burning random guys genitalia to be punished by
only 19 months? Can anyone burn some guy's Junk and say
well i heard he molested a little kid and expect only 19 months?

Multiple burns and broken arm??? Come on now. . . Assualt
like that is AGGREVATED ASSUALT. . . .IT WAS PREMEDITATED

What make this different that the local mobster shaking down
the shopkeeper with the old bat routine?

Duh, they're probably going to give them 19 months because they know now that the guy is a molester. No one's talking about what if they were wrong...they weren't.
