Ok so I am almost graduating with a degree in psychology. And i am looking for a good graduate schools in psychology. Anyone know of good schools that offer PhD's in psychology. Would like to move out of texas because i know some schools offer tuition wavers.
According to this site: http://www.socialpsychology.org/ranking.htm The top ten schools are: Stanford Michigan Yale UCLA Illinois Harvard Minnesota-Twin Cities (Mayo Clinic helps I assume) Penn Berkeley UC-San Diego Other notables in the top 30: Texas, Virginia, Colorado, Ohio State, North Carolina, Indiana, Chicago, UMass, USC
What do you want to do in Psychology? You can get your Masters and specialize in a particular field... "School Psychology" pays well even in the public sector if you like working with kids all day and allows you the option to private practice if you want..
Good luck with grad school. I lasted one year in clinical psychology grad school before I realized that I was way too selfish to be in anything related to bettering mankind. So I went into energy trading. I was evil like that. I've gotten nicer in the past 10 years. My sis stuck with her psyche masters program and she's working in the Dallas County Juvenile Prison. She digs her job but her stories are like Oz Jr.
Apply to a range of schools, 1 or 2 dream schools, some you think you are 50/50 to get in (it is probably worse odds than you think, very competitive), and 3 or so you think are total backups but you would consider going there. Then check out the school/students (the atmophere cannot be determined--but recognize most grad students are jaded) and financial package once/if you have some choices (acceptances), and be open to the best situation. General rankings (US news, others) should be relatively low on your priority because most all programs have their strengths and weaknesses, and areas of specialization.
