Have any of you heard of this device? It's made by Vonage: http://www.vonage.com/ Apparently, if you have a DSL or Cable Modem, any broadband connection, you can use it in conjunction with this "box." You plug your high speed connection into it, and in turn, plug your phone into it, and you get local as well as UNLIMITED international calling for $39.99 a month. Supposedly, you can have your internet connection live and make phone calls at the same time without interruption as well. Check the link above for more precise info....but this seems like it could be revolutionary if it takes off, and actually works.
Well the price break is nice but... You are dialing over the internet and are subject to the quality. If your Internet connection goes down, so does your phone... It looks kinda cool though and I might try it. I am already using Sage telecom though and saving almost as much over Southwestern Bell.
These things have been out for a while. Mediaring and Net2Phone are other providers of this service. Heck, you can fire up Yahoo Messenger and basically do the same using Net2Phone. I've done the Yahoo-to-Yahoo chat with friends in other states just for the hell of it (although that's a bit different from what's going on here).
