    I do want to point out that the Saudis practice Wahabism(?), which is a much more strict and harsh interpretation of Islam than others, so this shouldn't be used as a condemnation of Islam in general. The actions by the authorities in this case are just deplorable though, and frankly the only thing saving them from being the northern version of the Sahara Desert is the oil underneath.

    Something gives me the feeling these guys would probably just find another reason to continue acting the same way. I think most wrongly interpreted religious ideas often come about because of the person reading it, not what's written.

    No, not the rapists. The guy who blackmailed her into meeting him by threatening he'd accuse her publicly of adultery (which, ultimately, would lead to her getting stoned to death).

    She's lucky she got 90 lashes instead of the death sentence ... if she had been accused of committing adultery with said man, she'd be a dead woman by now. That's how outrageous Sharia law is.
