British army pilot used helicopter to fly pizza to girlfriend

LONDON (AFP) - A British army pilot flew into a storm of trouble when he used a military helicopter to deliver a pizza to his girlfriend.

The 25-year-old lieutenant was disciplined after he landed the Lynx chopper to drop off the takeaway snack to his army cadet lover during a training exercise around Norfolk.


"There was a training sortie by a Lynx helicopter on January 25," a Ministry of Defence spokesman said Tuesday.


"The training exercise consisted of low-level map reading. It involved a landing in the Stanford area," he said. "The pilot took it upon himself to basically deliver this pizza."


"He has been made aware that the chain of command doesn't condone his actions and has been disciplined."


The Sun newspaper reported that fellow Army Air Corps pilots at the lieutenant's base in Suffolk, devised a new badge for the 659 Squadron.


It featured the takeaway chain Domino's Pizza logo and the words "Quattro Stagione" after the "four seasons" topping.
