High prices, inconsistant signals, hidden fees, etc.

I pay 155.00 a month for cable with a few HBO's and Roadrunner. I am switching to SWB DSL, but want to disconnect these freaking cable boxes and shove them up the arses of Time Warner, TODAY.

Can I get it done today (houston)?

how handy are you? if you are confident in your abilities to screw the dish to the house/roof or put it on a pole, can run cable then patiently tune the satellite in you can do it in a day.

go to best buy or circuit city, purchase a receiver and a dish, about $100, take it home, point it to the South, run your cables, set the dish, call directv, tell them what packages you want, wait a few minutes, boom! directv... then when it rains, read a book or a magazine.

it can be done in a day, but you'll have to do it yourself. professional installation would probably occur the next business day (monday or later)

    good luck.

you'll also find that the prices are comparable and the signal will be about the same. when it rains, heavy, you'll lose signal. that's just a 'side-effect' of ditching cable. I did the same thing a few years ago... ditched cable, got satellite, then got frustrated with the satellite and went back to cable. i do know that while i had directv, i was loving it... "screw time warner" then when you are watching your favorite show and a storm comes a brewin'.... you'll be saying "screw directv"... it's a double edged sword.

I just got DirectTV installed the other day, mostly for the purpose of having league pass. My local company ditched it because there was not enough interest.

Anyway, I had a guy come over to install everything. It only took about an hour. I have all my channels, but I have yet to find out if my NBA League Pass channels work. Is there supposed to be commericals on all the NBA channels(NBA1,NBA2 etc..) before the game starts? All I'm getting is a black screen with a descripition of the Rockets/Magic game later on. Anyone have any answers??

I just got Digital cable yesterday. I installed myself.

I used to have regular ol damn cable. I went from 78 channels plus one to a bunch. The messed up thing is that I haven't even barely watched it yet.
