Check out the gallery: http://holgamods.com/ I've been doing a lot of reading on this camera and may have to pick up one and do some experimenting. There are countless sites out there devoted to Holga pics.
If you ever used a disposable camera, its the same thing except the size of the film. It reminds me of the pinhole camera I made out of a oatmeal container. I would much rather spend the money on a old medium format camera, but I think this would be a cool experiment. It just goes to show that a good photographer can shoot with anything.
I don't think it's the same as a disposable camera. Apparently the cheapness of this camera is what helps create some of those cool pictures.
I've never used a Holga but I have a LOMO which is related in some way in which I can't remember. Looks almost the same and takes some wild photos. Same principal... auto exposure, no focus, just point and click (well you set the distance). I have some great Lomographs of our Y2K NewYears bash at the beach taken around the bon fire and of the fire works. Cool cameras if you are photography buff. Getting a roll of film developed was always a treat because you never knew what you were going to get.
Yeah, I did too....oh wait, they're talking about a Holga!!!! No, I've never used one of those before...
From reading it, its the same principle. You have infinite depth of field so you don't have to focus at all and there are no shutter speed or aperture settings. All you have is a lens and a cheap shutter that opens and closes. The main difference is the film size which is probably 5 times as large. The cheapness of the camera causes the vignetting and barrell distortion. It would be fun because it makes you really think about your picture because the camera is so limited. However, you would have more fun with an old rollei because you have all the controlls and nothing is automatic.
We have a Holga. The coolest thing about it is all the light leaks. You can retape the casing between rolls and always get different light leak effects. It is something like a disposable camera (which you can also re-use, by the way), but much less homogeneous. By the way, I would never Holga with MadMax, drunk or no.
