Need a GPS for a person who will spend little time learning how to use it. It needs to be good for when this person finds themselves totally lost. It will not be doing much trip planning or points of interest use. This person has proved they are incapable of reading a map to locate their current position (even with road signs) Would be nice for it to be sub $300
Garmins are the easiest to use. However the new Magellans are pretty good also and are less expensive. I got my magellan 3225 for 150 bucks at Costco and it rocks. My only complaint is the POI database is small compared to others. The only feature I think is a must have is text to speech.
When I rent a car I always go with Garmins. Their interface is very easy to navigate through. It reacts very fast too, so if you missed a turn, it will calculate the alternative routes right away.
Garmin Nuvi 200. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=9160 Very easy to read maps, user-friendly interface. My sister has one, she says she'll never get lost again.
