Dog on tanker is ALIVE!!!!!!!!!

    WOO HOO!!!!!

    This one really tore at my insides when I considered the fate of this poor little dog. I felt so bad. But, apparently the tanker did not sink and the dog was seen running around the deck. A coast guard plane spotted the tanker and dropped their lunches to the dog.

    A rescue ship has been given the tanker's position and is 80 miles away in route!!!!

    That is tremendous news. I was so hurt by the original story.

    What I want to know is WHICH CRUISE LINE IS IT??? :mad:

    According to Norwegian Carribbean Cruise Line's web site, it was NOT their fault. They claim that the captain of the ship never informed them there was a dog on board or they would have taken the dog as well.

    I'm not sure if I believe this or not. How is it that only hours after the men were taken on board, there was a rescue mission mounted for the dog? Sounds really wierd to me.

    I thought it was sweet that the pilots airdropped their lunches on to the tanker for the dog. Dehydration is probably more significant of a problem for it than starvation.

    I was also happy to hear the news. I hope they get to it and it recovers completely from the experience.

    Not to be a pooper, but the story does remind me about how much has been spent on recovering this dog. I remember reading about how humane societies had spent over 50K to save the dog. The utilitarian in me is a little horrified they'd spend that much to save one dog, when I think what other good could've been done with the money, but who am I to put a price on a life? And I guess that's sort of like Judas Iscariot in one of the gospels griping about how the perfume used on Jesus' feet could have been used for the poor. I still feel Judas had a point.

    Wow, I went from the rescued dog to Judas Iscariot; how's that for rambling?

    very good rambling if i do say so myself.



    anyway, aren't tankers kinda big and didn't the original mission say they searched quite a large area. how did they miss it. glad to hear the dog is ok and glad to see companies still have spin control down pat.

    I thought of the same thing ... until you consider how much money is used in training to rescue some bulap bag layin on the deck. At least they are rescuing something.

    Consider it a real life training mission ...

    It's over....dog has been rescued finally. According to various news sources, dog is doing quite well. They had some trouble communicating with the dog because the dog speaks Mandarin and the rescuers speak English :). The dog was quite excited when they were rescuing it. Dog's comments shortly after rescue and after translation..."Where are those people who left me here? I'm going to bite them a new a-hole." Dog may have survived on rainwater and rats aboard ship.

    Final comment by dog: "I had the time of my life. I didn't need rescuing....I thought I was rescuing them." :D

    Umm....apparently they have NOT rescued the dog yet because they can't catch it. It won't come to them and is running around hiding below decks.

    Watch them end up leaving the dog cause they can't catch it. Apparently, their trying to lure the dog with peanut butter but it is not working. I say do your best Jason Voorhees imitation and go after the damn dog with a vengeance. Argh!!!!!!!!!

    Meanwhile, ten thousand dogs and cats were run over by cars in the timespan its taking them to capture the $50K dog. Isn't it ironic? Don't ya think? That there dog better be good eating. :p

    Somebody shoot the damn dog already!!!!! ;)

    Funny how the $50K still couldn't save the dog and now the Coast Guard must do the rescuing. Basically means the $50K was probably wasted as the Coast Guard would have had to deal with the ship anyway...cause its moving close to an island and is in danger of running around causing a spill.

    I hope the Coast Guard has a tranquilizer gun or a better method of catching the dog.

    I thought of that and actually did a little research. The captain is from Taiwan and they banned eating dogs(i.e. against the law) a while back. Still, I think alot of them consider it a delicassy(sp?) and do it anyway.

    Wouldn't that top the story off. Dog returned to owner, dog fattened up for a few months, and dog cooked over a pit on a skewer. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I think the dog should be adopted by someone in Hawaii. Screw the owner...he caused this mess in the first place. I believe he forgot the dog and didn't inform the cruise ship(which is what they say). He certainly didn't try to bring the dog aboard or try very hard. He should feel guilty...bastid.
