i've run my symantec anti-virus and spybot: search and destroy, nothing comes up.

i run mozilla and have stayed away from IE for a couple years now. recently though i've been getting a ridiculous amount of pop-ups in the IE browser, just randomly, even if there are no programs open.

NOW, I'm trying to write a paper that's due in an hour and half, and when i go to type in Word the cursor disappears (as if there's going to be a pop-up) but nothing happens. I just lose my cursor and I have to click where my last word was to continue writing. it wouldn't be that bad except it does it after every 3 to 4 words and i feel like pounding my head against the wall. i type a sentence only to find that it only typed the first word and a half.

it's taken a long time just to type this.

Someone help, i'd appreciate it SOOO much!

So..... are you having a problem with popups, or are you having a problem with your computer not responding?

I sound like an absolute idiot, LOL.

Honestly I don't know how to explain it.

Someone just told me to download AdAware, which I just did and 30 seconds into the scan has found 642 "infections." I guess this was the answer, should've waited a couple minutes to start a new thread.

Okay. Yeah Adaware, spybot, and antivirus are the three most-needed utilities.

No sweat. You're a chick, so you can get away with it.

You've probably got a corrupted hosts file. go to c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc and find a file named "hosts" (not "hosts.sam"). Edit this file with notepad. If you see a big long list of spam or p*rn sites, then, yeah, your hosts file is messed up.
