So...what is decent in the Minny downtown area? I will be around the convention center, I think - around the Hyatt Minn.

I am most interested in good food and cool stuff that is not far or doesn't take much time to see/do. I go there Wednesday.

    Thanks in advance.

There's a lot of interesting stuff not too far from there. I would recomend going to go visit the Walker Art Museum and the Mill City Ruins Museum on the banks of the Mississippi are kind of intersting. The Target Center isn't too far away and the Chain of Lakes aren't too far. As far as restaurants there's a lot of good restaurants around that area I guess it depends what kind of food you want. I would recommend walking south down Nicollet Ave. The Hyatt is on that street. About 8 blocks from downtown its known as Eat street and there are a lot of good Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican and even a German restaurant there. One of my favorites is the Jasmine Deli which has great Vietnamese sandwhiches and bubble tea.

How long are you here for? Unfortunately Wed. isn't a very good day for me but feel free to send me an email and I'll be glad to give you some more info or show you around if you are here long enough.

Thanks, I will definitely have to walk down Nicollet, then. I can always go for good Vietnamese sandwhiches...bubble tea is a plus. Going to the Walker will be part of the conference, so that is covered. I will be there until Saturday morning.

The area around the Walker is pretty nice too. You should also check out Bar Lurcat which is across the pedestrian bridge from the Walker sculpture garden. If you can get some transportation you might want to go to the Weisman Art Museum on the U of MN campus and there you can also check out the new Alumni Center. Almost forgot the Minneapolis Institute of Art which is just off of Nicollet Ave. You could go and visit the MIA and go have a Vietnamese sandwhich afterword.

If you like Claes Oldenberg, you'll love minneapolis. Err, maybe not love, but not mind, at least.

Fatty are you thinking about the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices?

That's in St. Anthony Main on the other side of the Mississippi from downtown Minneapolis. Its pretty small so you could see it all in about 15 minutes.

That's the one. We spent a good hour in there. I thought it was damn interesting, especially the devices to help treat women with "anxiety" issues.

And the beauty of going to that museum is that it is next to what I was told was the best burger joint there.

They had a cheeseburger stuffed with cream cheese and jalepenos. It was awesome.

I've been to the bar next to it and don't recall it having a particulary good burger. When were you there? This must've been before it moved to its present location.

Agree with Fatty though its got some pretty interesting stuff that you can try.

Do they still have that place? I was there in the summer of 99.

I wouldn't have time for long excursions that would involve any driving, but thanks for the suggestions, anyway. I will mostly be listening to papers being given, with a little free time sprinkled in.

It's not a long excursion. The place is across the river. Roughly 3-4 miles away from downtown Minny.

I'm in Minneapolis (Eden Prairie) for work every few months. There's a really good club downtown called Escape Ultra Lounge, which is badass on Thursday nights -> $1 you call its before midnight. It's on top of the Hard Rock, next to the Meridian Hotel downtown.

Also, there's an excellent Irish Pub called O'Donovan's I believe, that's right by the Target Center. In general that whole area around the Target Center is a pretty decent area in which to hang out. If you want a more upscale atmosphere, take a short cab ride to the "Uptown" area where there's lots of swanky bars, lounges, and restaurants.

If you get time, check out the Minnesota campus. It's pretty nice, as it split by the river.

O'Donovan's, we call it O'Generics. Check out Kierans Irish Pub in Downtown Minneapolis on 2nd Ave. and 4th St.. Its got really good music acts. Speaking of music acts across the street from O'Donovans and kitty corner to the Target center is First Avenue, the night club from Purple Rain. They also get some great music acts there too.

With all of these Clutchfans passing through MN hopefully I can get a bigger turnout for next time I try a Rox viewing party in MN.

Most of these places are within a few miles so its easy to get around to. As for going to the U of MN its easy to get there. Ask the concierage about taking the bus. Its a pretty short trip.
