A few days ago I posted a thread about "cluttering and crosses" at a deadly vehicle accident site near my home...

Reading the local paper lent some interesting facts that I would like to share with yall including the young folk posters...(I really don't talk like this...;) )

What is tragic is the 3 lives lost and how it came about.......The following is a condensed summation of written facts:( I will leave specific names omitted as a manner of respect)

Investigators are continuing to sort through evidence and statements concerning a deadly wreck that occured Sept. 6 which left 3 people dead and several more injured.

Harris county Pct. 4 investigators believe a head on collision between an Expedition and a Suburban was followed by three more cars that became subsequetly involved.

The 5 car accident involved 15 individuals and resulted in the deaths of a female, 16, her brother, 18 and a woman of 34 years.

The two young siblings were in the Expedition in addition to two other teenagers. TThey were both Humble High school students and had just been released from school at approx. 2:40 p.m.

Several witnesses said they saw the Expedition recklessly passing cars and then a school bus while traveling eastbound on Will Clayton Parkway. Witnesses said the Expedition crossed the double yellow line and ran head on into an oncoming Suburban.

The female (16) of the Expedition died at the scene. Her brother (18) died at Hermann Hospital despite efforts from LifeFlight. The brother was the driver.

The two other unrelated teenagers in the Expedition suffered serious injury but survived and are now recovering.

The driver of the Suburban, a female (34) was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 2 year old son, who was strapped into a child safety seat in the back seat was taken via ambulance to NorthEast where he was treated and eventually released.

3 cars traveling behind the Expedition were subsequently involved in the accident after the initial impact.

Pct. 4 Chief said the driver of the Expedition had apparently passes numerous vehicles unsafely crossing the double yello line prior to the impact. Pct. 4 is utilizing crash-reenactment technology to assist in identifying exactly how each impact of the crash occurred.

Police interviewed students who were aboard an Humble ISD bus that was passed by the Expedition shortly before the accident. Several of the occupants witnessed the impact.

The bus driver said that students passing unsafely and racing the buses has been a problem for years.

More than 40 students took advantage of the extra counselors available.

....Now my thoughts....First off I kinda feel like an ass for initially griping about the cards, letters, balloons and other trinkets at the crash site. My initial post/thread was to bring to question whether or not crosses at crash sites are overdone or not? Today I pick up the local paper and read this....Now after reading the names of the kids, the mother of the two year old and how utterly senseless this incident was in which 3 lives ended, I feel sad, angry, ashamed, etc....I am trying to make sense of it because I travel this stretch of road everyday to go to work. Everyday I have to look at the skid marks. Everyday I see the memorial crosses there...Everyday I think it could have been me....I hope everybody thinks about this...

    :(

Right on. Our time on earth is short and I hope everyone makes the most of it. I'm a hypocrite though, as I am the laziest person in the world. I need a swift kick in the butt.

Senseless death, but most kids i know do drive recklessly. Prudence and caution usually come with age. Let's hope they can be aquired from a horrible incident. I'm betting against it; this will test the resolve of many youngsters in the area.

This one 19 year old died on september 28th over near the beltway 8 and Philliphine Road. They first didnt initially erect a cross or anything. I love what they did better. They got on the overpass, and spraypainted his initials and the date on both sides. They then spray painted the road. I thought that was neat, and better than some measly crosses. Losing a life is sad. Infact, it sucks. THey put a big memorial near the street corner which was nice. No cross I don't think.
