Hello all, As the topic suggests, this has to do with my Credit Report. I am being handed over to obtain a security clearance, and they check out my credit report. My credit report has been pretty good. Except for 3 things, two of which aren't my fault ... let me explain: 1) BellSouth charges me $161 over a period of 7 months. I was in NC for an internship and had BellSouth. I never missed a payment or anything, so it surprised me when I heard about it. So I called them up, and it turns out its for an address I never lived at. So I filed a fraud report, but still waiting to hear on that. 2) Verizon Wireless sends me a notice saying I owe them $123.05 on an old cancelled account. I remember paying this amount, and upon checking, lo behold ... I found the cancelled check, and the bank statement which shows the check was cashed. But that was some 3 months ago, and I call every week, nothing yet. (Moral ... Phone companies SUCK) Third one was my stupidity. I was moving from NC back to MD and the bills switched a little late and blah blah blah, so I can deal with one 30-day late judgement. But the other two I can't deal with. What can I do? How should I deal with it? Any experience? Once they get them resolved will they be taken off my credit report?!? Thanks in advance!!! --rockit
Credit sucks period. They penalize you for all kinds of stuff. Basically don't have a balance or apply for any credit or it hurts you. Anyways, here are the three major bureaus - Equifax, Experian, TransUnion. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/green/cc/crdt2e.asp You need to get a merged 3-1 report that has every bureau if you haven't already. http://www.creditreport.com/index.asp?bhcp=1 http://www.truecredit.com/ Here is some info on disputing a false item in your credit report. I have also found that you can dispute some correct items (like a 30day late item) and sometimes get them to remove it. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/green/cc/crdt2d.asp http://www.creditrepairrights.com/category2.html sample dispute form http://www.creditreport.com/dispute_form.asp?REFER=RP2250 There are also some places that will do all of this for you. http://creditrights.safeserver.com/ac/home.html?id=newlexn www.junum.com As far as credit goes how does that affect a security clearance? Do you have to have a certain credit score or just show that you are a good credit risk? Hope this helps.
Hey Wink ... That was very helpful. I actually just got the Equifax report ... I've seen the other two recently and haven't seen anything wierd on there, so I'm thinking it shouldn't have changed that much over 1-2 months. Didn't realize there were folks who can handle this for you. I am going to try myself a few more weeks. The charges are a little steep, so if I can get it resolved on my own, it would be the best. I think I'll call my 30-day late account people and see if they'd make an exception. I dunno what they need this info for in the clearance process, its part of the packet they wanted filled out. Thanks again!
