Is there any significant difference between having a External HardDrive back up system and simply Using Ghost on your computer weekly? Ghosting your system is like taking a snap shot of your system and should hold all your data when you crash . .. .correct Rocket River just making sure
Correct. When windows is installed, there is some unique stuff that will not be identically created if you have to rebuild. A normal backup is fine for restoring data files, but if you want to back up the whole damn thing (including the Windows operating system) then you should use ghost.
Just like drox said. Backing up to another drive will work if you just want an extra copy of important files. Ghost will image your system meaning you could reload the image and not have to worry about reinstalling apps, setting up user accounts, etc.
Ghost is the way to go. I'm using it right now - has to be one of the best pieces of software you can own. You can use it as a straight backup too with Ghost Explorer- just browse to the image and you can look through it for files.
I just started using Acronis True Image to backup an image of my hardrive to an external... seems to work well. It will also let me mount the image and browse individual files.
