[Computer Help] Laptop Hard Drive replacement

    So my sister has a compaq laptop about 2 years old. It wouldnt run the recovery disks so we sent the laptop along with the 2 recovery disks to a friend of hers that fixes computer.

    He said that it needed a new hard drive, which is easy to replace so I told her to bring it back and if she bought the hard drive i would put it in.

    I got the hard drive in and then realized that we were missing one of the recovery disks. I figured we could just reset the whole computer somehow and install windows, but when the windows disk starts running it says that it cannot read the hard drive.

    We cant download the recovery disks and have to pay 20 dollars to get shipped and who knows how long it will take for them to get here.

    What can I do to format the laptop from its factory settings and start fresh with windows?

    Is there a way or should I just go ahead and order the disks.

    I am sure that some good Samaritan with the same model laptop or something close to it can lend you the recovery CDs. :)

    I know all the HP laptops has a partition on the HD that store some of the recovery files. So getting a new HD might make the recovery discs useless.

    I did get a new HD. Now it doesnt read it, I run a diagnostic test and it says it passes but when im trying to install windows, that is when it says that it doesnt read it.
