Lets see i graduated way back in 1998. And went to college all of one semester and decided at the time it wasnt for me. All of the courses i had though (about 4) i didnt drop.

So the question i pose to anyone that might know is...

Im in the middle of preparing to go back to school in Austin, first ACC and then somewhere else. What im curious about is those classes i took 8 years ago, and that if they will effect my GPA now if i start over since i did not drop the classes.

Any help on this subject would be great. Im really hoping it doesnt because that would start me off at a disadvantage right away :(

If you get your transcript sent to the school you want to attend it will affect it. I guess you could start over again with a new GPA, but there would be some money wasted.

If you are not going back to the same school, it doesn't matter. Just don't tell the new school about the old one.

yeah im not really sure what i was thinking back then. didnt have to take the TASP or whatever because i got i think around a 1210 on my SAT (took it 3 times to get that)

i then got involved in the wrong crowd. dated the wrong girls. im ready though now hopefully to turn those things around.

It wouldn't really matter anyways. If you are going to a totally new school, they usually don't accept your letter grades anyways.

If you had actually gotten some credit hours, then you could usually transfer the credit hours and the grades wouldn't actually affect your GPA at your new school.

But since you got no credit hours, just apply fresh and don't even tell them about your previous school.

Colleges, at least in Texas, take credit from other colleges but not the grades. So, it really doesn't matter if you send them the transcript or not. If you don't have any credits, it would just be easier to not do it.

I graduated HS in '98 too. I went to UH for 3 semesters but was REALLY lazy and didn't go to class and didn't drop them either. I did't manage to get about 7 hours though. :D But my GPA was 0.50.

After a year of sitting on my ass doing nothing all day, I got my sh*t together and was ready to try again. I went to San Jac. My GPA started fresh and after 2 years I left there with a 3.96 GPA.

Then I went to Texas State where I started fresh again and I graduated with a 3.60.

But if I had gone back to UH I would have picked back up with my 0.50 even though I nearly had a 4.00 at San Jac.

I advise HS students to take classes they're not good in at community college since the credit transfers but the grades don't. Take the classes you're good at at the university. That way, your GPA will stay high.
