I thought they were going to love us when Obama became president?

    [rquoter]Protest against Clinton visit

JAKARTA - MEMBERS of an Islamic group held a protest outside the US embassy in the Indonesian capital on Monday.
The protestors held placards in a demonstration against the upcoming visit by Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton, who is on her first mission overseas as President Barack Obama's chief diplomat.

Mrs Clinton arrived in Japan, the first leg of the Asian tour, at 5.30pm Singapore time. She will also be visiting Indonesia, South Korea, and China.

She is expected to focus on the global economic crisis and hot-button security issues including North Korea.

On Tuesday, she is due to meet Prime Minister Taro Aso, Japan's foreign and defence ministers and opposition leader Ichiro Ozawa.

Mrs Clinton will be in Jakarta for a two-day visit, from Feb 18-19. Foreign minister Hassan Wirayuda said she is likely to touch on bilateral relations and the Middle East peace process.

'Talks have yet to take place, however, we're certain that will focus on efforts to enhance bilateral ties, as well as issues central to Asean, East Asia, Afghanistan, Iran and the Middle East,' he said, according to the Jakarta Post.

Mrs Clinton broke with a decades-old tradition of new US secretaries of state travelling first to Europe or the Middle East after taking office.

In a statement released shortly after her arrival in Tokyo, she said:

'I have chosen Asia on my first trip as secretary of state to convey that America's relationships across the Pacific are indispensable to addressing the challenges and seizing the opportunities of the 21st century.

'By strengthening our historic Asia alliances, starting right here in Japan, and forging new partnerships with emerging nations, we can begin together to build networks around the world to help us solve problems that none of us can solve alone.' -- JAKARTA POST, AFP[/rquoter]

    1. Who thought everyone would love us once Obama was president? We've gotten more love, but universal love?

    2. You can find protesters to protest anything or anyone.

Sorry, you have a backlog of unanswered questions that I'll have to insist you reduce before I answer any question of yours.

you make the process of proving you wrong tedious and cumbersome - there are many examples of other nations taking a friendlier tone towards the US post-Obama.

I sympathize with JV because taking the trouble to post them would be a waste - you would simply refuse to acknowledge it or make a lame allusion to blame-the-media conspiracy theories.

I guess this is part of your BBS strategy, be wrong so often that eventually nobody can be bothered to even take the time to rain sweet BBSownage down upon you.

Thanks basso, your machine-like ability to post disinformation apparently has a cumulative effect.

I find that despite my best intentions, I can no longer can support this administration.

Now I know how you must feel, yearning for the "glory days" of Bush.

I really miss Cheney and the gang, too.

Perhaps you mean Iraq? Iran? Afghanistan? Pakistan? India? Russia? China? Canada? Mexico? Japan? Indonesia?

Please- share with us the "many" examples, and please indicate why they're important.

    TIA.

    Russia's a good example:

Russia offers Obama olive branch on missiles: report
    By Christian Lowe

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia has halted plans to deploy missiles near the Polish border, a Russian news agency quoted the military as saying on Wednesday, in what could be a sign Moscow is seeking better ties with the new U.S. president.

    Iran:

    Ahmadinejad: Iran welcomes Obama overtures

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iran's president said Tuesday his country welcomes talks with the United States "in a fair atmosphere with mutual respect."

Now for the benefit of the rest of the BBS - please spare me a response. YOu don't know what you are talking about here and nothing you can say will be of much consequence. I can already sense the tone of response we will see, will be some whimpering bullsh-t about appeasement - which means you are directly contradicting your previous implication that Obama has changed nothing with respect to the previous administration. You might as well just post "i'm a big giant dumbass" because that's the way it makes you look.

lol!!!!!!! Way to move the goal posts. Because relations have improved in one area, you try and find some other area to show they aren't perfect.

Of course relations can be improved but still not perfect.

This thread like so many other basso threads belongs in the fail pile.

dude, obama's been president for 25 days, plenty enough time to solve the world's problem tsk

don't you you remember how the media was sooooooo critical of bush in his first twenty five days, because you remember, bush had all those problems to deal with that clinton left him.

This response would have been better had you not mixed up Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan....lol.

it still would have been lame but at least you would seem more informed (yes I know the US is contemplating putting a base in Uzbekistan to replace the lost ones in Kyrgyzstan)

oh, i know the difference, and that was my point. the russians forced the closure of the base in Kyrgyzstan, after Obama took offie, and with problems protecting convoys from pakistan, we don't have a lot of good options now to supply or troops in afghanistan.

reopening a base in Uzbekistan is one option, albeit, not w/o problems if it's own.

Which you confused with Uzbekistan, as I noted.
