Must be a good reason for this beyond "buy American", no one wastes their money on a specific brand of car if he/she had a bad experience with it. Again, not to use an old Ford slogan, but if you haven't looked at American lately, look again! http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=30&article_id=9133
Easy - American cars are generally much more readily available, much cheaper, and better promoted than foreign cars. Most people don't exactly do too much research before they buy a car. They go for what is easily available at the best price - again, because of the above, this usually means American cars.
Note to debate, but American cars are not equal in quality or reliability when compared to their foreign counterparts...I've had a Honda accord for years until I upgraded to a Lexus, and hands down the best cars on the road... My ex has a newer Tahoe and the piece is starting to need repairs already...crappy american cars...
I absolutely love the Lexus experience, and I'll probably now be a customer for life. That being said, the U.S. companies have made steady inroads. In fact, this quote it taken directly from the JD Power website with regards to their 2004 initial quality survey. (Buick especially has been rated quite high in quality for several years now): "Lexus set a new IQS record with its Lexus SC 430, which is the best-performing model in the IQS history, scoring just 44 PP100. Lexus remains the top-ranked nameplate, despite a 14 percent decline in initial quality, with four models receiving awards. Lexus is followed in the nameplate rankings by Cadillac, Jaguar, Honda, and Buick and Mercury in tie, respectively."
Mrs. Pole drives the Lexus......Mr. Pole drives a big Ford Truck and he's very happy too. Until Lexus makes a truck. ....a big one.....
I drove a Lexus SC400 for years and NEVER had any problems with it. It was honestly the most reliable car i've ever had. I don't have many problems w/ my mercedes, but there are still some. Lexus service is also some of the best, hands down.
I've had my Tacoma for 5 years. NO PROBLEMS. The wife and I will only buy Toyota. (unless I get a classic one day) I wish they made a "Rockets" edition Tacoma.
The Ford Taurus was among the best selling cars every year it was out. As was the Ford Escort. Both were crappy vehicles for most of their lifetime.
Buicks have always been among the IQS leaders... I just couldn't buy one because they're ugly vehicles. I contemplated getting a Cadillac CTS, but the bang-for-the-buck just wasn't there.
Oh wow, I have to disagree with that. Now if you're talking about the 3-series BMW... ok... absolute chick car.
