Can the United States ever recover its pole position as the world leader in Human / industrial capital ? There has been a lot of talk about " we dont make things here anymore" and observationally , it definitely seems to have some merit . Our industrial base was outsourced and Trump and Biden have made limited efforts to restore it. However, its the brain drain : either from people leaving , or the dumbing down of our society that I am more worried about. You can rebuild the infrastructure if you have the expertise. Without smart people you are truly screwed. The best campaign i saw in the last 10 years was Andrew yang's Make America think again . MATH . I think Yang made poor political decisions and don't like him as a leader as much anymore , but i think he had the right idea ... and he was ahead on the AI job destruction that has happened and will continue to grow. Look how many hours Chinese kids go to school . I know a few Iranians and they are sharp and value education. The battle for education in America has been lost IMO . Both dems and republicans stick to canned talking points and tear down the other side for either being woke , or racist. Its been 10 years since wev'e had a leader at the top that could speak in complete sentences and inspire people to grow and learn. Americans have been focused on survival since the great recession and havent flourished. Think about the art and science we used to produce, we used to play for the love of the game. its game over man , game over.
Brain drains are near impossible to reverse once they get a little momentum. And money follows brains. For the first time since 1935, more Americans left the country than entered. MAGA will say that is the result of immigration actions, but there's more going on then kicking people out and restricting who comes in. https://www.wsj.com/us-news/americans-leaving-the-us-migration-a5795bfa
