So, I'm heading out to Santa Cruz in a couple weeks to meet my new niece who will be born today or tomorrow. I'm really wanting to catch the Texans first victory over the Colts which will start at 10:00am PST. Do the sports bars out there generally open early on Sundays during the fall? TIA.

Oh and B-Bob, if you're reading this, you should come down. StupidMoniker, same goes for you, even though I don't know where you are these days.

I only know about sports bars in the LA area.

One sports bar on the Santa Monica promenade used to open right before 10AM each Sunday (i.e. right before the early games start) and would also start pouring at the same time. They had mondo satellites and showed every game. I used to meet other expatriate Houstonians there for the Oilers games.

In Santa Cruz, you might have to go up to San Jose for something like that.

Yeah, I may have to miss that then. :) I know of a pretty good sports bar there in town, so hopefully they'll have it.

Yes they do and most serve brunch for the NFL faithful. I'm speaking from experience of having been to Sacramento sports bars, but it is the same state.

Sports Bars? In Santa Cruz? Maybe if there were an ultimate frizbee channel or something. I don't think California hippies and potheads are the main audience for football. :)

But seriously, I did a search and found a couple of sports bars in the Santa Cruz area, called the Garage, Skinny McDoogle's, and The Mediteranean <- that one is in Aptos, next door to Manuel's.

After a little more research, I have found that the Windjammer Cocktail Lounge offers "COMPLETE SATELLITE COVERAGE of the NFL", and opens at 9AM on weekends.

Yeah, I knew it'd be tough!

When I was searching, I saw that the Santa Cruz Metro (their version of the Houston Press) had The Garage as the number one sports bar in town. I went in there last February to catch the UT/Kansas basketball game. Disgusting. It was where the homeless kids with natty dreads stopped in to watch the games.

Where is the Windjammer? Where are you?

    1. It's Metro Santa Cruz, :).
    2. The Windjammer is off the State Park Drive exit in Aptos, next to the Safeway.
    3. Right now I am in Stockton, but I go down some weekends so I could probably make it.

You say tomato, I say piece of crap sports bar they're jocking. :)

I know right where that is.

Lemme know. I will be honest and say I'll probably only be there for one game since I don't want to spend too much time away from my new niece. :) But if B-Bob would respond, I'd even make a trip up to the city.
