Finally a step in the right direction. Lue would never be able to lure Lebron

It had to be a HC gig. No way he would've left tax free millions in Europe to be an assistant in the NBA.

This could also spell the end for Kyrie in Cleveland though.

^ That's fine, draft exum and be done with it

Kyrie should be worth a treasure trove of picks

No lie, but Kyrie would help these Rockets a lot. If Kyrie could be had, I hope the Rockets make strides at getting him.

Very nice score. Excellent coaching reputation in international circles.

Surprised the Cavs took such a big leap, I thought it more likely that he ended up as an assistant HC with Kerr.

    Should be fun. :)

Yeah I like Kyrie, but I can't see him here. He's a ball dominant player who can't play defense. Basically a shorter Harden. Given all of our other needs- I'll pass.

I'm as curious as anyone to see how Blatt does as an NBA head coach. IMO, this is a very good choice for the Cavs since their team is such a failure. They have nothing to lose by hiring a guy totally unconnected to the NBA because bringing in a worn-out retread would do nothing to energize and turn around the franchise.

They may strike out with Blatt but a bold move is better than grabbing leftovers.

Messina is a legend in Euro circles. Blatt is highly regarded.

Really a surprising move from Cleveland. They usually do what the others do, but less good. This may really place them in the picture in the East.

They actually have a decent GM in Griffin now, things will change.

If you're interested in what David Blatt did at Macccabi Tel Aviv / might do with the Cavs, I did some compilations of the stuff he ran at Tel Aviv:

More to come later in the week (and perhaps as early as later today).
