    I thought a separate thread on this subject was warranted...sorry to those who disagree. My purpose here is to post information rather than to make a point.

    Now to the matter at hand: putting aside the stress fracture to Yao's foot, and if my memory serves me correctly, there are several NBA big men who have suffered from foot injuries. Here's a list of those that come to mind (excluding Yao):

    (1) Rik "The Dunking Dutchman" Smits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rik_Smits);

    (2) Bill Cartwright (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cartwright);

    (3) Bill Walton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Walton#NBA_career);

    (4) Kevin McHale (http://preview.tinyurl.com/35enyp);

    (5) Andrew Toney (http://preview.tinyurl.com/2tswok)

    (6) Žydrūnas Ilgauskas (http://preview.tinyurl.com/2v4nbw);

    (7) Samuel Dalembert (http://preview.tinyurl.com/33uyld);

    (8) Austin Crochere (http://preview.tinyurl.com/3dmrgm);

    (9) Curtis Borchardt (http://preview.tinyurl.com/2lbmwf); and

    (10) Erik Dampier (http://preview.tinyurl.com/3dcbfh).

    Numbers 1-6 either had their careers ended because of foot injuries or the best years of their careers taken away because of foot injuries. All 10 of these guys were or are NBA big men. Chime in with names of other NBA bigs whose names have escaped me.

    Here are some links about stress fractures of the foot, which seem (at least to me) to be more prevalent in NBA big men than backcourt or wing type players:

    Shaq has often missed large chunks of the season with foot/toe injuries, hasn't he?
