...I love "Ghost Recon", and it's subsequent mission pack game, "desert siege"...it has been praised by many gaming mags such as PC Gamer, and Gamepro.com,... but I wonder if anyone knows of a computer game that is better as a "tactical shooter" type game? maybe, maybe no?...hmmm...
Not a tactical shooter, but similar games are Medal of Honor..and No one lives forever. Both are EXCELLENT games. DaDakota
I'm so glad you posted this Roxran - I absolutely loved Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear, but the review of Ghost Recon at Gamespot.com was really bad, so I have held off getting it. No I think I will go and grab it. Although I haven't played it, I've heard that Operation Flashpoint is good.
There's a somewhat new game that I'm having alot of fun playing called Global Operations that I've been playing quite a bit lately. It's by one of the teams of people that worked on the 'Counterstrike' mod for halflife (specifically beta 5) and it more or less follows the same theme. Nice online play, with an 'anti-terrorism' theme, and several nice weapons, and lots of nice gameplay, but it's basically a online/MP game only. For a different experience, I'd suggest trying Operation Flashpoint. While it's not the prettiest game in the world, the enviroments are huge, the gameplay speed is realistic and you can basically hop in tanks/helecopters/jeeps/etc and play, and it has both a solid single player story and decent MP support. Definately flawed, but definately good enough to keep playing in spite of it.
I think the best original one in the genre wasn't technically, a shooter at all... Thief: the Dark Project Good story, excellent, creative mecahnics...

I don't know the diff between tactical and plain ol first person shooter, but Counter Strike wins in my book...
Counter strike is not a tactical shooter, if you want a mod that is more tactical, the ACTION Halflife mod is more appropriate. DaDakota
