Across all sports who has been the best no1 pick?

    LeBron James
    Tim Duncan
    Shaquille O'Neal
    Peyton Manning
    Troy Aikman
    Alex Rodriguez
    Orlando Pace
    Dwight Howard
    Chipper Jones

I believe everyone on the list has taken a team to the finals.

The NFL seems to be the worst sport to get a no 1 pick in.

When you say number 1 pick do you mean for that team or just period?

Because Shaq didn't win one for Orlando.

    duncan easy.

won a championship his 2nd year.
multiple championships for the team that drafted him
    sustained excellence for a decade+
great leadership by example/ no off-court drama

I agree with this, but there will be a case for Lebron sooner or later.

It was hard to chose in between Shaq/Duncan/Manning but I went with Shaq.

Sure Shaq got the Magic to the Finals but bolted first chance he got. I wouldn't say that that's the best #1 pick for the team that made the pick.

Duncan's arrival in the NBA (and not just in San Antonio) was dubbed epic before he left Wake Forest and it has been just that.

Manning's rookie year was a doozy but, hey, virtually all rookie QBs get mauled their first year. He was destined to be the Jim Kelly of this generation (getting close but close enough) and I'm glad he got his ring.

So I'd vote for Duncan or Manning.

Not LeBron - no championships with Cleveland
Not Shaq - no championships with Orlando (good catch, Shaud)
Not Manning - only 1 championship

Tie between DAVID ROBINSON and TIM DUNCAN - 2 championships each, 1st pick overall... for 2nd place. They needed each others' help first, and Parker, Horry, and Ginobli later.

WINNER: Olajuwon - 2 championships with the Rockets, you a-holes.

But seriously, it's a toss up between Jeff George, David Carr, and JaMarcus Russell.

Duncan really? Because of some rings? I understand that argument within NBA basketball but in the NFL its just too hard to remain on top like that. Manning is possibly the best QB of all-time. He is The Destroyer.

You're not going to convince him, he's always been a big Manning hater.

    It's between Peyton and Shaq.

Peyton, one of greatest QBs ever vs. one of the greatest centers ever.

Both dominant players, yet Shaq has more jewelry.

Again, neither the Lakers NOR the Heat drafted Big Diesel, sir. I don't think he will apply in the discussion of "greatest no1 pick."
