Any experience with Dell business desktops (optiplex, precision etc)

in my limited personal experience with each, i've had about the same rate of failure of parts with each.. i don't know that the business desktops are built better or use higher quality parts...because you choose your components, after all.

So I'd get whichever is cheaper in order to get the components you want..

yeah, understood. I knew that about laptops..have never known of any differences in desktops.

In terms of Lenovo.. I don't know about desktops. But I do know that back when it was IBM making that hardware, the IBM laptops were awesome (as everyone knows) and the IBM desktops were big pieces of crap. Not sure if Lenovo improved that or not..

 

Their business desktops tend to be more reliable, in my experience, save for perhaps the hard drives. Business models are intended to be available for sale for longer, and business customers get longer warranties and expect there to be parts around for the life of the warranty. Because of this, Dell and other companies tend to spend more money designing the parts for these lines to insure lower failure rates and higher profits.

Consumer models, in my experience, are thrown together from whatever is the cheapest part available. There's no consistency between models, and models change quickly. Dell just sells whatever it can get at the lowest price, and when they get cheaper stuff they come out with a new model.
