Another shocker: Astros designate Scott Linebrink for assignment

    Astros designated RHP Scott Linebrink for assignment.

    Odd. Linebrink has done about as well as could have been expected while being used as a starter by the Astros (3.38 ERA in five starts). He's really a reliever, so it's surprising that the Astros decided to remove him from the roster rather than send him to the bullpen.

    Does this mean it's time to give Saarloos a full time shot, munro the same, a soon to be announced trade, or a signing of a veteran unemployed pitcher namely Chuck Finley?

    Interesting to say the least.

    Supposedly its simply to call up a position player with Blum/Hidalgo sick, but why risk another team claiming a pitcher you need and not send down saarloos or puffer for a guy on the 40 man roster.

    Pitchers are scarce. Linebrink is better than many but worth nada? Get me a braintrust -- this team is at sea!
