Ok, so the wife and I both received iPods for Xmas. I finally started using mine and she's wanting to spend this weekend to download songs to her iPod. Will she be able to connect her's to our computer where I had downloaded the software and registered my iPod? Can I download the software that came with her's on this same computer? Help these two technological challenged people out!!

    Thanks.

    www.ipodlounge.com for future questions.

Your iTunes should be fine for both. if it's connected 2 the internet it will automatically update the software. No need for double instillation. Your wife can register her ipod at www.apple.com it will just appear as untitled when she hooks it up 2 your comp.

FYI. If you format the ipod on a PC then you'll be able to use it on both Macs and PC, whereas if you format it on a Mac then you can't hook them up to PC's. You'll have to reformat it and loose everything. So format it on a PC just incase your ever at a friends house who has a mac(or PC) with songs you might like.

    Yes, thats good advice above.

The problem you may encounter as many people do with their IPOD is if they switch computers to and which they get their downloaded music from.

For example you have computer A, which you transfer your music files to your IPOD. Then if you attach your IPOD to computer B, your IPOD will erase all the files on your IPOD, since the audio libraries don't match from computer A.

I realized this the tough way one too many times. But then I realized if you change the IPOD options off of "autoupdate" on the Itunes and manually update your songs you can switch computers as many times as you want without deleting all your songs on your IPOD. But that requires you to change the setting of 'autoupdate" on each new computer.

I lost about 20 albums when I first before I had this knowledge, and was very pissed. But now it works fine.

Thats one of the crappier things about IPOD. Also Itunes isnt very good.

Install http://www.ipodsoft.com/index.php?/software/ipodagent on machine B. Connect iPod to Machine B. take music off iPod, and into computer B. Now you have computerB and computer A with the same music. You don't lose music off your iPod like BrightSide said.

Your wife can log in has HER on Computer A. You can log in as YOU (different username) on Computer A. Install the latest iPod software iTunes. You each can have your own library, or share the music by making the music folder the same one accessible by both, but you have your own settings on your own library and she has hers. iTunes will NEVER ever remove your registration or owned music.

OR, enable disk mode to save files, save all the AAC or MP3 files to your iPod, copy them to computer B, and then import them into iTunes and use them there if you don't want to try iPod Agent above. (http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/itunes/it7-2.html shows you how)

You can import songs as MP3 from CDs you rightfully own and even listen to them with WinAmp or Windows Media Player... but the best part is that you can transfer them to or listen to them safely on another computer with MP3.

I just have a seperate local user setup in XP for my Itunes library, so anytime I want to copy music just to my ipod I log into that. I don't there is a way to have seperate Itunes Libraries available under the same login. Not really a big deal. My ipod is like crack it's so good, good luck.

iTune's auto-update to my iPod is crashing my computer everytime I run it, and I have no idea why. Just locks up the entire computer. I went out of a freeroll earlier because it folded a hand after the turn with 4/5's of my chips in the pot when my computer froze up.
