Another Blow for Rice: Major Applewhite leaves for 'Bama

Major Applewhite has accepted an offensive coaching position with the Alabama Crimson Tide and will be in charge of quarterbacks and might earn the title of Co-Offensive Coordinator at a later date.

Applewhite is making his fourth coaching stop in four years. Major was a graduate assistant with the Longhorns before joining
Greg Robinson to coach quarterbacks at Syracuse two years ago.

Last year Applewhite got his first Offensive Coordinator job
with Rice University and led the Owls to one of their best offensive seasons in years. Rice lost to Troy in the New Orleans Bowl, which was the Owls first bowl game appearance in 45 years.

Alabama bought out Major's contract, but terms of his new deal
were not released.

Applewhite grew up an Alabama fan while living in Baton Rouge and was even named after former Crimson Tide quarterback Major Ogilvie.

He's on the fast track to being a head coach. It's hard not to do well at such a good program in College Football's best conference.

Major Ogilvie. Now that's going back to Bama's peak glory years under the Bear. Maybe Saban and Applewhite can bring that feeling again.
