Mrs Ref and I will celebrate our FIRST anniversary on December 1, 2002. I haven't the foggiest what a traditional and/or good first anniversary gift is. So I turn to you...my clutchcity friends for help and advise in the matter.

    Thanks to all in advance.

    First of all, Congrats!

Isn't the first annivesary the "paper anniversary"??

how about a copy of the Sunday Houston Chronicle... the one with the coupons!!!

or maybe an empty paper bag she can fill with groceries at Randalls?

how about a papier mache cowboy hat?

sorry i can't be more helpful, never having been married and only had one girlfriend that made it to the one year mark.

do you cook? i never cook and whenever I do for a gf, it comes across as a huge surprise and the night always ends well! ;)

of course, maybe that means nothing in a marraige and is expected?

Paper, huh? Hmmm...maybe I could call a few friends and see if they can make some calls to try to get a Papal blessing of our marriage. The proclamation would be on paper. Then I could also get her something cool to go with it.

    Thanks for the help.

    Anybody else?

I know that its traditional to call the first anniversary the "paper anniversary," but I know that my fiance actually likes to DO things for gifts rather than GET things.

Example, for her birthday I got us great seats to see "The Lion King" when it came to town on stage. I guess something like that could work..the tix are made of paper.

I know you could argue that when you go do something it doesn't last as long as say a poem or something, but we'll always have the memory instead of something that's just going to collect dust for the next 20 years.

I also took her to Vegas for another birthday...that was fun for her and me :)

P.S. They also like jewelry for ANY occasion, even "paper" ones, just wrap the necklace in paper...

I generally like to do both. For her birthday I got her a piece of Mikasa crystal and tix to the Ren Fest, which she had been telling me for months that she wanted to go to.

    That's an idea too. :)

"Traditionally", the first anniversary is paper, however the "modern" gift is a clock.

I nice watch with engraving on the underside would be nice (my wife liked it :) )

You can chck out the full listsing of gifts by year at http://www.weddingtips.com/annv.html

How funny. The wife and I celebrate our 1st anniversary one day before on the 30th of November!!

My wife said a good first anniversary gift is a Spa Package. Now whether or not thats normal, or just her personal preference, I have no clue. But it sounded good to me so Im going with it.
