This has been on-going for the last several days. They cancelled 900 more scheduled flights today again. Unfortunated I have to go on a business trip for a conference today and my carrier is AA. Worse, one of the connect flight is MD-80. Keep my finger crossed.

    Background on this:

Apperantly FAA issued a new directive and started inspecting all MD-80s, which is half of AA 655 plane fleet, at the end of march. AA complied and fixed things, but FAA reinspection called for yet again grounding and fixing. This time the problem is potential wiring may cause spark in fuel tank. So it's not like AA has any choice or did their passengers good for making it safe.

AA fixed it but the clamps that hold the wires in place are apparently 1 inch too far apart, so they have to do it all again.

FAA being a bit much here.

I cannot believe this is happening. This is going to sting AA for a long time and be a bonanza for their main competitors (CO, UA and Southwest).

Not being too much if the difference could cause a spark in the fuel tank. It is better to be more careful and not end up with a couple hundred needlessly dead people.
