How would the Rockets of fared this year if they had Hakeem in his prime instead of Yao? Would they win it all, be a contender, or lose to the Laker in the first round?

I think we could of won it all, we had a chance to beat the Lakers this year and a '95 Dream would of made the difference.

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

It's the team, the system. 1-on-1 is not that effective with
the zone defense. But if Hakeem played with this squad for
2 more years to develop chemistry, they might get a ring.

trading yao's 17-8-1.5 for dreams 24-12-4-3-2 would probobly have won us an extra 5 or 6 games.

52 wins. would that have got us the 5th seed? maybe second round. we still have too many TO's.

if we had a normal amount of to's on our current team, i think we could have done better that our team with dream sans yao.

Its an interesting question that I'm not sure can be quantified with just stats. Hakeem in his prime would've provided something else this team badly needs. Veteran leadership. He might've been the steady hand with which to guide the team. Look at how he got the best out of other inconsistent but talented players like Vernon Maxwell. Imagine Hakeem mentoring Eddie Griffin. Maybe we wouldn't be having a power forward debate.

Dream would have demanded the ball much more than Yao's passive approach to our offense. That might have had more of an impact than anything else.

How could we not win a championship with Hakeem of 95. We'd be a dynasty. I think you guys are forgetting that he would get constant triple teams and still dominate. There is no one in the league who is triple and quadruple teamed anymore, not even Shaq.

Hakeem would have been the best player in the league. So with a few smart trades to surround him with the right talent they could have one the championship. He would have demolished all the centers, including Shaq who is still good but isn't quite the beast he used to be.

The Rockets would have just finished off the Pistons in five.

Even with Steve turning the ball over 8 times each game under
    Pistons pressure defense

dont think so, and steve will crack under pressure. Remeber the rookie who literally gave steve fit. TO would kill us.

the bread and butter of our championship teams involved great inside/outside passing and execution. we had good perimeter players that can hit shots when given the opportunity. 2004 Rockets has none of those kinds of players. Teams would just go ahead and double/triple team Dream without ever thinking that our perimeter players would pose any long range threat.
