44 Years Later, Italian Man Found in Wall MILAN, Dec. 3 -- An Italian man who packed his bags 44 years ago and told friends he was leaving for America was found dead inside one of the walls of his home today, according to Italian police. An American woman who recently bought the house, near Lucca in northern Tuscany, discovered the body as she was carrying out renovations, police said. Inside a thick wall in the cellar, the woman found human remains, two packed suitcases, a rusted rifle, a bottle with a suicide note, a trowel and other equipment that could be used to make a wall. The note, on paper headed with the name Nemo Cianelli, explained that the man had discovered that he had an incurable disease and had decided to kill himself. In the letter, he said he had invented the tale of going to America in an effort to avoid upsetting members of his family, according to the account given by police. Local newspapers reported in 1958 that Cianelli was missing, and speculated that he might have gone to America. However, after a period of rumor and mystery, the story was forgotten. Police said it appeared that Cianelli had packed his suitcases, written the suicide note, built a wall up around himself and then shot himself. ----------
Let me get this straight. This guy was depressed because he had this incurable disease, but yet he felt compelled to build a friggin wall?? Geez, if he wasn't so impatient, he could have found some other things to do to "occupy his time".
It seems like he was trying to spare his family the grief of having to see a drawn out terminal illness. There was a bottle found as well. After he built the wall, maybe he got drunk enough to perform this saddenning deed.
Huh. This room seems smaller than it was yesterday. Yes. There seems to be a new wall here that's closing off a part of the room. On a completely different topic, one of our beloved is missing. Should we look behind this new wall? Perhaps our beloved in behind it?
I bet Geraldo's sitting at home thinking, "Why couldn't I have had this kind of luck when I busted into the vaults of Al Capone?"
In Philly, they have the actual walls in the basement of Poes house, that he used for the story. It's pretty weird. The basement he owned was damn creepy. You could easily see where the story came from.
That seems very honorable of the guy....most just leave themselves splattered on the wall as a surprise.
