    For the love of everything sports, can someone please explain to me what the +/- stat stands for? I tried to look it up on google with no avail.

    Basketball: Scoring differential for each player based on the time they spent on the court. (example. T-Mac comes into the game with the Rockets leading 67-45. He exits eight minutes later with the Rockets leading 77-50. He is a +5).

    Hockey: Scoring differential for each player based on the time they spent on the ice EXCEPT FOR power-plays and penalty kills (unless the shorthanded team scores).

    from what i remember it started as a major Hockey stat, because Jaromir Jagr was one of the best players, but had the worse +/-. I could be wrong.
