Train Wreck - 7.5/10 Was a funny movie and Amy Schumer was funnier than I expected. Some parts were a little slow and I felt like some things that they tried to make funny just weren't funny in my book. I thought Lebron James was pretty good in the movie. Loved the Cleveland/Miami stuff in it.
The Maze Runner - 6.5/10 - I was thoroughly enjoying it until Spoiler the last 10 minutes that was one of the worst endings ever. Ex Machina - 8/10 - This one was really interesting. Godzilla (2014) - 2/10 - This one started okay but quickly went into the toilet. The final half of it was a total mess. I can believe I watched it in its entirety.
Trainwreck- (5/10) Amy Schumer is funny some of the time, but annoying most of the time... and unlikable the whole time. Judd Apatow has lost his touch as a director. He's become predictable, and substitutes quality with quantity. I will say Lebron was hilarious in the movie.
About Alex with Aubrey Plaza, Jason Ritter, Max Greenfield. Kind of an indie film but pretty good nonetheless! Jason Ritter plays Alex who tries to commit suicide but fails so his old college best friends plan to stay with him for the weekend looking out for him. Most def ya should check it out solid 7/10.
John Wick - 5.5/10 Really probably a 5, but he didn't say a whole lot, so he didn't screw things up as bad as I thought he might. The action was decent, if a little repetitive. The cars were sweet, if a little underused. The plot was a stretch, even by action movie standards, and still didn't stretch far enough to make much of a movie. Dude was a bad man though. I expected better by the ratings (think it was 3/5 on TWC, and most don't get that high unless they are pretty decent), but it was good enough to watch without turning it off, otherwise, meh.
I recently started watching movies again (my youngest goes to sleep a bit earlier now). Interstellar: 4 Really did not like this movie, It made no sense but it was also really predictable. Just a huge letdown. Edge of tommorow: 5.5 Loved the movie, it was funny nice pace, i would have rated it an 8 if not for Spoiler The ending. It was terrible. The movie should have ended 10 minutes earlier. Again the ending made no sense, but I also predicted this would be the ending.. Hollywood Dawn of the planet of the apes: 8 I liked this movie overall. Just a nice movie. The franchise is redeeming for the 2001 version which was one of the worst movies ever. Hobbit: battle of five armies: 5 Boring. I am a huge fantasy fan. But this movie was just all over the place and just to boring. The book had material for maybe one movie, not three. Hercules: 6 Overall a nice popcorn movie. Nothing special, but also not terrible. Most movies about Greek mythology are terrible (looking at you Titans franchise). The characters were not to plain, and it was sort of funny how they handled the supernatural things. I would have preferred if the movies was about the labours of Hercules, but this is ok. Predestination: 7.5 I liked this movie. it keeps you on your toes. Especially at the beginning was had no idea which way the movie would go. That is refreshing since most movies are the same with minimal differences. Do not read the following spoilers if you have not seen the movie, it will destroy the movie Spoiler Of course it was pretty predictable that he was Jane, John and the bomber. but I will not hold it against the movie. I do not understand why they needed to tell you on 3 times they were the same person. It was pretty clear the first time
A Walk Among the Tombstones 5/10 Nothing special in any way. Him taking the black kid under his wing was stupid and cliché, but otherwise I don't think there was any thing so bad. Would recommend on a slow day. Note: It's a slow mystery movie, not a crazy action movie with Neeson kicking ass.
Trainwreck 2/10- worst appatow movie I've seen in a while and I'm a fan of his. the only funny part I found was the A-blast about A-rod. The escort 4.5/10- it's a b movie and predictable, so I knew what i was getting into. But it somehow grabbed my attention. Still better than trainwreck I thought.
Vacation: 4.5/10 - never too funny but just funny enough Mission Impossible RN: 6.5/10 - Fun action movie
Ant-Man: 7/10 Thought it was pretty funny; wished some of the characters had more development in it. Started off slow but really picked up with some epic fight scenes mixed in with some hilarity. Cameo of the Avengers was cool; Paul Rudd's pretty awesome as well
It Follows 4/10 I had heard all the hype around this movie, but had never seen it. GF and son wanted to watch it, so we put the DVD in last night. Wow. I won't 'spoil' the movie for you if you haven't seen it, but I will just say a few things: First, the good. Well, it did a pretty good job of creating a sense of inescapable dread. High marks for that. Other than that, there wasn't much. This was one of those fairy-tale type movies in which adults never actually seem to make an appearance, and the world seems to be occupied and inhabited solely by angsty sexually-charged teens. The 'bad guy' (the 'It' in It Follows) simply wants to kill. And if you have seen the previews then you know it only wants to kill the most recent person who had sex with the LAST person it just killed. So it's, you know, like a daisy-chain of sex-death! Yay! Again, not wanting to spoil anything, but I just have never cared for these Japanese-influenced 'horror' movies in which the antagonist always wins, and there is clearly never any hope of prevailing against it. I don't see the point in watching something like that. What's the message? Despair? Hopelessness? Anyway, ok, I get it, the movie-maker meant all this as some sort of allegory for STD's, or perhaps for 'Death Itself'. I figure that's the point of the girl's speech in the hospital room at the end. But still. It doesn't have an ending as such, it just sort of randomly stops, with nothing resolved, just a continuation of relentless creeping doom. Yay. Such a fun two hours I will never get back. Pass on this one, unless you are a fan of those types of movies where you know that nobody has a chance against the evil whatever-it-is.
The Malta Story - on netflix 7/10 Great WWII story. Allies were desperately needing to get into Malta to cut off Africa from being supplied by Europe and the Axis powers from being supplied by North Africa. This was called Operation Pedestal, it's the first real catalyst for winning the entire war. Everything else before this operation was a strategic loss, more or less. Movie doesn't quite do it the justice it deserves, but it's still pretty good.
Did your kids eat your brain? This movie was brilliant. One of the most subtle movies I've ever seen. I had to watch it again with subtitles to catch it all. I'm guessing you're calling it predictable because of foreshadowing?? They handed you that part of the plot. It wasn't meant to be hidden. 10/10 every day of the week. Best film of the last 3-4 years.
