Meanwhile, Smith is waiting for the resolution of the KJ situation. If KJ is signed for a low enough $ figure or if KJ is signed for a high enough $ figure that the Rockets would just let him go, the team may well be able to pay Smith with the rest of the MLE, or even the entire MLE, at a $ amount higher than $2.5M.
