Just wondering. I got a job offer from a consulting firm and would like to hear some experiences. Thanks.
I worked for a short time as a Computer Consultant. Usually not as many perks as an employee but more money - sometimes lots more. I didn't do it very long because I value stability over money and for me the money wasn't that much more. But also remember - stability is in the resume.
I worked for an economic litigation consulting company as a researcher. I may tell you about it tomorrow, if the thread's still active. I'm going home now.
Like it or hate it? Anything you'd like to share? Obviously, I've spoken to some people, but it can never hurt to get to know more...guess you can imagine the things I'm interested in. The usual questions. But actually, it seems like a good sign to me that you have so much time to post on this BBS .
Funny thing is I work in consulting, and I go to offices to conduct interviews that go EXACTLY like the men from "Office Space." (yet the reasons for it are very different). Usually the employees I interview are very nervous, and probably have seen "Office Space" thus they try to describe EVERY tiny detail of their jobs to make it sound like they are overworked and too busy... even though that's not what I'm looking for in the interview sessions. Yes... I am a Bob.
I used to be a strategy consultant too (McKinsey, so pretty much the same as BCG (only better )) I think its a fantastic job and very interesting work. Pretty hard to get bored. I don't know how old you are, but if this is a pre-MBA job, you really can't get a better job/name on your resume. The hours are long and travelling can be painful if you are in a relationship. But on the other hand the expense accounts/perks are awesome (not like they were in 98-00 though!) I know sometimes people get dissuaded by the profession b/c a lot of the work consultants do: a)could be done by client or b) is utter bull****. I found about 2/3 of the stuff I did to be pretty valuable to the client (and thus gratifying) and 1/3 to be crap. This of course is very project specific. Email me if you want more info.
