His fist is closed but he doesn't strike Howard with it. He shoves him with his forearm. I don't think you could really call that a punch.
Tyson Chandler is one big p***y. He lets his frustrations boil over throwing around his arms because he doesn't like the fact he's met his match with somebody who can outdo him physically. If he doesn't like the way Howard clears room using his elbows, then he can do the same thing. But, more often he starts throwing his elbows and arms around after the play is over while players are transitioning to the other side of the court. He's a punk that is not used to being pushed around. All he does is grimace and complain with late elbow shots. Screw this guy!
The other thing is that the ref sees both Dwight and Tysons actions. It happens right in front of him! If he didn't get thrown out then, he won't get suspended now
Didn't Ariza get suspended for a game because he threw an elbow at DeRozan his first time around? He didn't connect but was still suspended. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Nrgd5v184Xs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is wrong, punch doesn't have to land. Anyway, 4 things happen in this clip. 1. Chandler and Dwight arms are locked. 2. Dwight swipes down with right forearm to unlock Chandler from him. 3. Chandler responds with a left elbow/forearm to Dwight's back. 4. Chandler follows the left elbow/forearm with a right hand closed fist punch to Dwight's back. NBA is clear on this, you can't throw a punch regardless if it lands or not. Chandler's dumb-ass should be suspended, he threw a 1-2 combination. Pacman would be proud.
Yeah his dumb ass is getting suspended. I wonder what's going on in Tyson's head there? Root sports should've been all over this.
Never underestimate the power of clutchfans. The media often come here for stories. They can have this one.
Ariza went for Derozan's head, so you had to suspend him for that cheap shot. With Chandler, it's not completely clear if he's going for the punch or the forearm shiver. The way the league is called nowadays, I'd assume that his actions are suspension-worthy. At the same time, I can see the league being a little flexible with this, considering the series just got interesting. A suspension would all but end the Mavs' chances
Those refs made no attempt to get control of the game when the Mavs were pulling all their dirty BS plays
so J Hard gets suspended for a mild kick, Chandler getting suspended for a blatant punch behind the back too right?
Not to compare the two... Jason Terry was fined for flopping in game two (or whenever it was) Still waiting for the league to fine (or even warn) Draymond Green. Hasn't happened (and won't). Maybe Tyson gets fined but more likely than not, nothing. Play on, game five.
Two things... 1 -- The commentators for the game mentioned several times how Howard "took down" Harris in the previous game, and made it out to be a dirty play. They played a video clip during the game of this play, and to my disbelief, it was the non-call that Dallas was screaming about where Harris was falling out of bounds, and it looked like Howard gave him a push. The absolute worst possible interpretation of this play was that Howard fouled Harris. Portraying it as a dirty play or something more is clearly a fabrication that the TV network put together - they had the video cued up and ready for this. In reality, I think the non-call was absolutely correct. Anyway, the point is that when Harris bear-hugged Howard, the commentators acted like it was "retaliation" for that particular play. I'm sure Dallas fully believes this narrative. 2 -- Tyson is a hothead, and has a massive ego. Based on interviews and behavior before and during this series, he clearly believes himself to be a "champion". He has a ring, and played an important role on that Dallas squad, but his self-worth is inflated compared to what I see his contribution to be. I'm really shocked this his big-head doesn't completely screw up his game... like Howard insisting on post isolation plays. Kudos to Tyson for understanding what he is good at, but the punch aligns exactly with how I view his personality and temperament.
There's a reddit thread about this, but it's under the 'new' section, and not really going anywhere yet. When Harden 'kicked' Lebron these same people were calling for his blood.
