Didn't want to start a new thread for this...but can anyone explain to me why the USA are supporting the Saudis in bombing the Houthi rebels in Yemen? Is there in any way a humanitarian mandate or any other reason to get involved? Other than wanting Saudi oil? I don't understand it.

On the one hand, Obama's government is negotiating an agreement with Iran, on the other hand, they are fighting a proxy war with them in Yemen.

 

The US is allied with both the Yemen government and with the Saudis. The US isn't biased for or against Shiites or Sunnis as a whole. It just depends what side any particular group falls on regarding particular US interests.
