Do we have to get rid of Asik and Lin's contracts in order to get a 3rd star?

Is it possible to keep Asik if we get Rondo/Carmelo

or keep Lin if we got Kevin Love?

    Thanks contract people.

Not in a straight signing, but yes if you work out a sign and trade.

Packaging Asik+Jones, or Lin+Jones, for example, will allow HOU to take back up to $15M.

According to the trade machine you could trade Love for Asik, Jones, and Parsons.

I'd be looking at the Lakers 7th pick....they don't really need that with Kobe .

It should be way easier to trade Lin + Asik now, shouldn't it? Considering they have one year left on their contracts.

If the warriors can do it like they did last year then we can do it. I was flabbergasted on the warriors ability to move terrible contracts

The Sixers have no need for either Lin or Asik. They have Noel, who they are extremely high on, and Carter-Williams, who just was the Rookie of the Year. Plus they have the 3rd pick, which many think should be Embiid.

So unless the 76ers want Lin off the bench or playing shooting guard or Asik to play center with Noel playing power forward, don't expect a trade.

It would be nice if we could keep Asik somehow. Too bad he doesn't really want to remain here.

I might actually be harder, and in Lin's case, almost improbable.

The past two years, the Rockets have been able to play both Asik and Lin at discounted prices. Lin for 5 million a year is around, if not under, market value and Asik at 5 million is a right steal. (Hibbert is more than doubling Asik's salary and Asik is arguably the better player)

Entering this season, any team will have to pay Lin/Asik 15 million, which over paying for both. (Harden is set to make 15 million next year) Sure it only counts 8.3 million on the salary cap, but owners will still have to pay 15 million each, so unless its the Rockets, no other team will get that discounted price on them. Add that most of the owners in the league are very cheap and won't want to pay that much, a trade that ends with Lin and/or Asik to another team is very unlikely.

This is why it was almost imperative that Morey moved Asik/Lin during this past season. This way, the other team would have gotten a slight discount and it would almost like paying Lin/Asik to a 10 million/year contract instead of 15 million for 1 year. I think it's almost certain that Lin and/or Asik will remain Rockets for this next season, with Lin pretty much being 100% certain.

I can see some teams wanting Asik by the trade deadline, if not earlier. Once he hits free agency, he will be a hot ticket and if a team really wants him, they might go after him via trade. And who knows, maybe after the Knicks lose Melo (to Houston ;) ), they might want to do a sign and trade with Lin going back to the Big Apple, just to please their idiotic fans :)

    they have MCW

Lin is almost impossible to trade. He's good. But he's overpaid in a league full of talented point guards.

The knicks mistake wasn't letting lin go. it was replacing him with felton.

The answer was no before today. The answer is YES after today with the Parsons option declining. The Rockets can straight up S&T Parsons for Rondo or Love in terms of salary matching(Rockets obviously need to add in more talent though). Parsons at, say, $12mil+Lin+other assets would be enough to get Melo and thus keeping Asik.

In this sense, the Rockets gained more flexibility if they want to trade for a star. But they have lost all flexibility in terms of straight signing a star.

Sixers have Michael Carter Williams and Nerlens Noel. Don't think they'd care for Lin or Asik.

sure, but Daryl cant pull it off this time, he gotta swallow the poison pills himself, so there is no cap space for a 3rd star.
gotta face it, that both contracts are on the most expensive 3rd yr and thx for the benching decision the scrub coach team did last season, their trade value both shrink with their stats hence hard to sell. just ask yourself who gonna spend 15m on a bench player. the wrong decisions bite back hard yet again, I just wonder why Daryl didn't step in this time, he likes to keep flexibility but now the flexibility is gone with this 2 contracts locking up cap space, and the environment is nobody wanna trade pick for your pill, dont think he can go anywhere this year.

your neba getting rid of Lin... you may need to trade the entire scrub bench to possibly have a chance.
