Went here today, DAMN. It challenges Franklin's for sure. Right in West Campus. http://www.tmbbq.com/freedmens-2013/
Franklins, a bit overrated. Brisket + ribs were moist, but ribs definitely lacked flavor and was a bit too oily/greasy. Sausage was just bleh. Brisket were good though. Was a bit disappointed after 4 hour wait La BBQ- no wait sometimes 10 mins at max, damn good brisket and theres free keg of beer for people in line. Ribs not as moist but has flavor. I honestly though franklins is not worth a 4 hourwait when you can get pretty damn good BBQ at La BBQ. havent tried john muellers or tmbbq but will do
I am not picky nor critical when it comes to BBQ but I enjoy Hickory Hollow & Gatlins (I work & live in the Heights) and when I am heading out I-10 west, Joel's in weimer is the spot.
I live in WC and have never been there. walk by it all the time too, but it's just too expensive for me to go to on a regular basis (being the poor college student that I am)
I thought I'd try J Mueller's Meat Co. I think they open at 10:30. I got there at 11:30. They're outta meat. Austin, why hast thou forsaken me?
And La Barbecue slapped the other cheek ... out of meat. As I just heard another patron-wannabe say at its closed gates, “One disappointment after another..." Poor kid. Haha.
try freedmans. or I know it's not that great, but I like Lamberts, upstairs happy hour. it's half off menu.
I gotta agree with you there. I've been to Killen's three times over the span of 6 months, and it has been incredible each and every time. I've never had Franklin's, but I gotta say that I'd take Killen's beef ribs and brisket over Saltlick's every day of the week. Central Texas definitely isn't in the same league as Killen's, but that Cuban congri at Central Texas will keep me coming back haha.
